Teaching Experience

Jacques has more than 30 years of teaching experience and has worked with countless students throughout his career. He teaches drums, piano, and mallet instruments, and also provides coaching for full ensembles, often being brought in to work specifically with rhythm sections. He has taught ensemble classes at Cornish College of the Arts, Ted Brown Music, and Tacoma Community College, and has also worked as a Symphonic and Jazz Band coach at Seattle Academy of Arts and Sciences. Jacques has taught students of all ages and skill levels—from young beginners to seasoned professionals, with students ranging from preschoolers to adults in their nineties. In addition to his regular teaching, he has presented masterclasses throughout the United States and internationally, sharing his expertise with students of all levels.

During the first 25 years of his career, Jacques maintained private teaching studios at various schools, including Seattle Drum School, Pacific Music, Mills Music, and Plateau Music. He also taught percussion ensemble as part of the Seattle Drum School’s full-year certification program, helping students develop strong rhythmic fundamentals and ensemble skills.

Why Choose Jacques?

He brings a unique approach to music education that goes beyond standard instruction. With expertise on drums, piano, and mallet instruments, he applies lessons from each instrument across all areas of study, giving students a richer and more interconnected understanding of music. He draws from a wealth of experience performing thousands of live shows in a wide variety of settings, bringing practical insights that go far beyond what can be learned in a practice room. His experience also extends beyond music—Jacques is accomplished in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and juggling, disciplines that require precision, timing, and creative improvisation. By integrating insights from these diverse practices, he has developed an integrated approach that connects timing, physical awareness, and improvisational thinking, helping students improve their musical skills while deepening their sense of rhythm, coordination, and creative expression.
